Befriender to Person with Autism

Overview

We are looking for a volunteer befriender to support:

  • Befriending support at client’s home
  • Improve client social wellbeing and social skills
  • Explore or introduce games/ activities to engage client in home setting

Frequency:

  • Once every 2 weeks, flexible to discuss day of visit with Caregiver/ mother
  • Joint visit with staff worker until volunteer is ready to engage independently with presence of family member
  • Able to commit 3 months (or longer)

Location:

  • Client resides in Chai Chee. Exact location will be provided once volunteer has been confirmed.

Overview

Key Responsibilities:

- Befriending support at client’s home

- Improve client social wellbeing and social skills

- Introduce games/ activities to engage the client in home setting

- Client is a 31 YO Male, and attends TOUCH Centre for Independent Living on weekday. Stays with family.

Volunteer Requirements:

- English speaking

- Patient to hear client out when he struggles to express himself

Schedule:

- Once every two weeks home visit

- Preferably: 1) Sat morning before 2pm, 2) Sun between 2.30-4.30pm, 3) weekday evening (Can be discussed)

- Commitment: Min 3 months (or longer)

- Joint visit with worker until volunteer is ready to engage independently with presence of family member
