Befrienders will be paired with families and would be asked to do the following:
• Help the family build self-esteem, find hope and strength in their trying moments
• To offer support, comfort, encouragement and friendship to the family
• Take children out for a few hours to allow parents some time to themselves
• Provide non-specialist emotional support as an informed friend
• Assist families in the completion of paperwork and correspondences.
• Above 18 years old, open to SG citizen, PR & foreigners
• Mature, understanding and approachable
• Have a strong desire to help others
• Enjoy working with families
• Fluent in 1 other language on top of English, e.g. Mandarin, Malay, Tamil
Commitment
• Be matched to a family and encouraging the family to follow through the programmes by Social Service Agencies known to the family
• Provide regular updates on the progress of the family
• Attend training as and when required
• Visit for once a month, minimum 6 months commitment
Must have at least one of the following
• Volunteer with financial literacy background
• Volunteer able to advocate good parenting skills
• Volunteer proficient in vernacular languages (Vietnamese, Cantonese, Chinese, Malay, Khmer)
• Volunteer who can work with youth/youth mentoring
