AAC Befriender

Overview

A befriender will need to have 4 touch points with their assigned senior in a month - 2 phone calls & 2 house visits. The purpose of befriending is to keep seniors meaningfully engaged through conversations and at the same time encouraging them to participate in activities hosted by their covering centre. This is done through mind-stimulating activities like chatting with them and playing games. Volunteers will also help to monitor seniors' health status and needs, and provide relevant updates to staff on elderly's progress through monthly reports. Being able to speak in colloquial dialects is an advantage.

Commitment: 6 months

Day: Flexible

Timing: Flexible

Volunteers should be passionate about working with seniors to promote active ageing. They should be positive, patient and willing to lend a listening ear. They should be able to travel to beneficiaries' homes in Bedok and complete simple reports. Befriending skills and experience is NOT required but would be an advantage.
