Overview

Key objectives:

- Assist teacher in the preparation and management of learning and leisure activities in class

- Assist during community outings or during CCAs as an extra pair of hands

- Ensure safety of clients, help them hone relevant skills, and encourage socialisation

3 different types of opportunities:

  1. Class Support during usual school days (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri)
  2. Class Support during CCA days (Wed)
  3. Class Support for Day Activity Centre

Class Support (School)

Overview

Responsibilities include:

- Befriending
- Guiding students in filling up their schedule board
- Escorting students between venues, e.g. drop off to classroom
- To assist teachers in managing a class of students
- Assist a look after students during activities carried out in school and in the community
- Talk to students and ask them what they want or need
- Assist with administrative duties associated with activities

Commitment: 6 months
Days: Mon, Tues, Thurs or Fri
Timing: 8.30am - 1pm OR 1pm - 5.30pm
Clients: 7 to 18 YO students learning in SPED school

Class Support (School, CCA)

Overview

Volunteers, during CCA days, help with supporting e.g. keeping a lookout for students who may be waiting for their turn, should teachers be engaged with other students; helping to support the students while executing the activities and minding their safety.

Class Support (Day Activity Centre)

Overview

Responsibilities:

- Set up schedule board and materials for learning and leisure activities
- Escort clients between venues and to the toilet
- Ensure the safety of clients at all times
- Assist and engage clients on activities carried out at the centre and in the community, e.g. making purchases, taking public transport
- Befriending / socialise with clients and encourage communication
- Assist with administrative duties associated with activities
